What the Chemistry exam contains

Cambridge International AS & A Level Chemistry (9701), on the 2025 to 2027 syllabus, has five papers. The AS Level is Paper 1 (multiple choice, 1 hour 15 minutes), Paper 2 (structured questions, 1 hour 15 minutes) and Paper 3 (practical skills in the lab, 2 hours). The full A Level adds Paper 4 (structured questions on the A Level topics, 2 hours) and Paper 5 (planning, analysis and evaluation, 1 hour 15 minutes). A Level topics include lattice energy, electrochemistry, further equilibria and kinetics, transition elements, more organic chemistry including nitrogen compounds and polymers, and analysis by methods such as carbon-13 NMR.
